US retailer Target confirms massive Data breach, 40 Million Credit cards Compromised.

US largest retailer ‘Target’ have confirmed that Credit card details of over 40 Million Costumers have been compromised in a recent breach which took place between ‘November 27 and December 15’.



Target Chairman Gregg Steinhafel told Reuters, “We take this matter very seriously and are working with law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice,”
The breach most probably involved stealing of Information from magnetic strip of payment cards through point of sales system. no customers shopping online from target.com or those shopping from Canada retails were effected with the breach.

‘Target’ have confirmed that Card details such as Card Owner Name, card number, expiration date, Cvv number have been stolen.
Target have already taken essential steps and have asked their customers to follow few steps for protecting them from Credit card misuse 

The customers shopping around the breach period should keep an eye over credit card statements, in case of any suspicious activity they should contact Target or the Bank.
  
More over company is working with law enforcement agencies including US secret service agency and financial institutions to investigate the incident.

The point of sales system used by retailers around the globe have become a major target for cyber criminals. Experts believe that in such cases one of the company official might have inserted the malware into the company’s machine or the employ could have been tricked to click on a malicious link that could have downloaded the malware which gave access to the system.
